You'll also find mixed compositions combining birds and butterflies, ideal for kids' rooms or boho interiors. For complementary themes, browse our animal wall stickers, which widen the choice beyond our feathered friends.

Why choose a bird wall sticker for your decor?

In recent years, the bird wall sticker has become a popular alternative to frames, canvases and wallpaper. Three main reasons explain the choice: it's simple to apply, the cost stays under control (on average 3 to 5 times cheaper than wallpaper for the same area) and you can remove the design without damaging the wall. It's a particularly good fit for renters and for anyone who likes to refresh their decor every 2 to 3 years.

A wide choice of designs: hummingbird, swallow, blue tit and more

Each species carries its own imagery. Here are the most common pairings to help you choose:

  • Swallows in flight: a symbol of freedom and homecoming, perfect as a flock on a light wall to bring movement to a room.
  • Blue tits and robins: colourful garden birds that add a warm touch to a kitchen or reading corner.
  • Hummingbirds: an exotic, graphic style, often paired with watercolour flowers for a bedroom or creative home office.
  • Owls: a forest and fairy-tale feel, especially popular for children's bedrooms from age 3.
  • Stylised birds on a branch: a timeless black graphic silhouette that fits just as well in a Scandinavian interior as in a minimalist one.

Sizes, colours and personalisation

Bird wall stickers come in sizes from around 30 cm (single design) to more than 200 cm wide for full murals. To avoid overloading a wall, aim to cover about a third of the wall area at most.

Wall area Recommended sticker size Visual effect
Under 5 m² 40 to 60 cm Subtle accent design
5 to 10 m² 80 to 120 cm Balanced composition
Over 10 m² 150 cm and above Immersive mural

When it comes to colour, monochrome versions (black, white, charcoal grey) remain the most versatile. Multicoloured and watercolour versions work best in rooms that are already understated, where they become the main graphic feature.

Easy to apply, removed without a trace

Applying a bird wall sticker takes 15 to 30 minutes on average for a standard size, with no special tools beyond a plastic squeegee. The surface must be smooth, clean and dry — matt paint more than 4 weeks old, vinyl wallpaper, glass or varnished wood. On fresh paint (less than 4 weeks old), the sticker may pull off the top layer when you remove it.

To remove it, warm the vinyl gently with a hairdryer for a few seconds, then peel it back at 180° in the opposite direction to how it was applied. On a suitable surface, it leaves no residue.

Decorating ideas room by room

The design you choose and where you place it depend largely on the room. Here are the combinations that work best, based on what we see in interior design:

Room Recommended design Ideal placement
Bedroom Branch & birds, flock of swallows Above the headboard
Kids' room Colourful birds and butterflies, owls Play wall, at child height
Living room Graphic swallows, branch mural Sofa wall or corner
Kitchen Blue tits, robins Splashback, dining wall
Hallway Flock of black birds Wall facing the front door

Bird wall stickers for the bedroom

In a bedroom, a bird wall sticker usually goes above the bed, at about 80% of the width of the headboard for a balanced look. Silhouettes in flight work particularly well on a light wall, in an asymmetric composition of 5 to 9 birds spaced 15 to 30 cm apart. For a softer mood, branch compositions with 2 or 3 perching birds create a calming effect that suits a space for sleep.

For a grown-up bedroom, you'll find more designs in our bedroom wall stickers, which offer complementary themes (nature, abstract, quotes).

Bird wall stickers for the living room

In the living room, the centrepiece usually goes on the sofa wall, about 20 to 30 cm above the back of the sofa. Horizontal branch murals work particularly well on this wall, in lengths from 150 to 250 cm depending on the size of the sofa. Flocks of swallows, meanwhile, come into their own on corner walls or stairwells, where they can stretch across several metres following the lines of the architecture.

Avoid placing the sticker right in the centre of a blank wall: shifting it towards the upper half (at about 60% of the wall's height) always creates a more harmonious look.

Bird wall stickers for the kitchen or hallway

The kitchen suits colourful, figurative designs: blue tits, robins and goldfinches fit naturally into a homely setting. Choose areas away from the hob — at least 60 cm — as heat and grease splashes can damage the vinyl over time.

The hallway is the ideal spot for a graphic composition: a flight of black birds on a white wall catches the eye as soon as you walk in and gives a strong identity to a space that's often overlooked. Wall stickers 80 to 120 cm wide are plenty for most hallways, where the wall area rarely exceeds 6 m².

For related themes such as floral or animal compositions, you can also explore our butterfly wall stickers, often paired with birds in nature-inspired designs.

Practical tips before you buy your bird wall sticker

Before you make your final choice, a few points are worth checking to avoid disappointment when it comes to applying it. Always measure your wall before ordering a size, taking into account sockets, switches and furniture that might get in the way.

  • Check that the surface is suitable: matt or satin paint, vinyl wallpaper, glass, varnished wood. Roughcast or heavily textured plaster walls are not suitable.
  • Let new paint dry for at least 4 weeks before applying, so it doesn't lift when the sticker is removed.
  • Plan to apply sizes over 100 cm with two people — they're much easier to position with a second pair of hands.
  • Keep the transfer film intact and unfolded until you're ready to apply.
  • Work at a temperature between 15 and 25°C: below that, the adhesive doesn't grip as well.

For children, a few extra precautions apply: choose moisture-resistant designs if the sticker goes near a water source, and place designs at the child's eye level to stimulate their curiosity. Our kids' & nursery wall stickers bring together designs made especially for children's bedrooms and nurseries.

FAQ: bird wall stickers

How do I apply a bird sticker to a wall?

Clean the wall, position the sticker dry with masking tape, then smooth it gradually with a squeegee, working from the centre outwards. Then carefully peel off the transfer tape.

Do bird stickers damage the paint?

On standard-quality paint that has been dry for more than 4 weeks, the sticker comes off without any damage. On fresh or poor-quality paint, the adhesive may pull off the top layer.

Can I order a custom size?

Each design comes in one or more fixed sizes, shown on its product page; we don't offer made-to-measure sizes at the moment. Not sure which size to choose? Send us a photo of your wall and we'll advise you within 24 hours.

What is the lifespan of a wall sticker?

Indoors, a quality wall sticker lasts 5 to 7 years on average with no visible wear. Outdoors or on a south-facing window, allow more like 6 to 12 months depending on sun exposure.
