Butterfly wall stickers transform your walls in minutes, with no drilling, no glue and no building work. This selection brings together wall decals for every room, from the living room to the kids' room, and on average they stay put for 5 to 7 years depending on the surface. You'll find everything you need to dress a 2 m² wall or a whole 10 m² stretch, in 3D or flat designs.

Why choose a butterfly sticker for your decor?

An animal wall sticker brings movement to a static wall, and the butterfly is one of the most versatile designs in the family: it works in grown-up spaces as well as in kids' rooms. Here are the main advantages over traditional wall decor:

  • Applied in under 15 minutes for a standard 50 x 70 cm size, with no special tools.
  • Costs 5 to 10 times less than an equivalent panoramic wallpaper.
  • No marks when removed from smooth surfaces, unlike adhesive putty or nails.
  • Can be repositioned several times during the initial application.
  • Lightweight: a kit of 30 butterflies weighs less than 100 g, compared with 2 to 3 kg for an equivalent frame.

Easy to apply, with no drilling or glue

Thanks to the transfer film technique, you can apply a whole set of butterflies in one go, even for large compositions. No professional tools needed: a plastic squeegee or a stiff card is enough. Renters especially love this solution, as it avoids deductions from their deposit for drill holes.

Suitable for all smooth surfaces

The table below sums up the suitable surfaces and any precautions to take:

Surface Compatibility Precaution
Matt paint Excellent Wait 4 weeks after painting
Satin paint Excellent None
Glass, mirror, tiles Very good Degrease the surface
Vinyl wallpaper Good Test on 5 cm²
Non-woven wallpaper Variable Risk of tearing
Roughcast, textured wall Not recommended Insufficient adhesion

Easy to remove without leaving marks

On suitable surfaces, simply peel the sticker away at a 45° angle to the wall. If the adhesive has been in place for more than 5 years, a hairdryer at 60°C held 15 cm from the surface softens the glue and makes peeling easier. No residue is left on new satin or gloss paint.

Our butterfly sticker collections

The selection is organised into four distinct families, each suited to a different use and style. Here's how to choose for your project:

Collection Style Ideal room Area covered
3D butterflies Raised effect Living room, hallway 1 to 3 m²
Butterflies and flowers Botanical Bedroom, home office 2 to 5 m²
Kids' butterflies Colourful, magical Kids' room 1.5 to 4 m²
Personalised butterflies Made to measure Any room Variable

3D butterfly stickers with a raised effect

3D butterflies come in kits of 12 to 24 pieces, with wings that lift individually to create a depth of 2 to 5 mm from the wall. The effect really shows under raking light, such as a spotlight angled at 45°. Allow about 30 minutes to apply a kit of 24 butterflies spread across a 4 m² wall.

Butterfly stickers with flowers

This collection pairs butterflies with floral motifs: branches, roses, daisies or botanical compositions inspired by 19th-century natural history illustrations. The compositions span 80 to 150 cm wide on average, which matches the space above a 3-seater sofa or a 140 cm headboard.

Butterfly stickers for kids' rooms

Designed for children aged 2 to 10, this range follows on from our catalogue of kids' & nursery wall stickers. The colours are bright, the outlines simple, and some designs pair with magical themes such as the unicorn to create a cohesive world. The inks used are free from harsh solvents.

Personalised butterfly stickers

You can personalise the main colour, the size of the main motif (from 20 to 120 cm) and sometimes add a first name. Personalised designs usually take 3 to 5 working days to produce, compared with 24 to 48 hours for standard designs.

Where should you put your butterfly wall sticker?

Where you place your sticker has a direct effect on its visual impact. Placing it at eye level, between 1.40 m and 1.60 m from the floor, makes it as visible as possible in living spaces. Here are the best spots, room by room:

  • Above the sofa, across a width equal to 60% of the sofa's.
  • Over the headboard, in a composition spread across 1.20 to 1.80 m.
  • In the stairwell, following the rising diagonal of the stairs.
  • On an interior door, in a 30 x 90 cm vertical format.
  • On a hallway mirror, for a fluttering effect around your reflection.
  • In the bathroom, at least 50 cm from any direct water source.

In the living room: an elegant touch of nature

In a 20 m² room with a standard 2.50 m ceiling, a composition of 8 to 12 butterflies spread over 2 m² makes an impact without overwhelming the space. Go for monochrome tones (black, white, gold) in a contemporary living room, or natural colours for a cottage feel.

In the bedroom: a soft, soothing atmosphere

Above the bed, the composition should ideally span the width of the mattress, plus 20 cm on each side. So for a 160 cm bed, allow a composition 200 cm wide. Pastel shades (powder pink, sky blue, sage green) help you drift off to sleep, unlike bright colours.

In the kids' room: magical and colourful

For a 9 to 12 m² room, a composition of 15 to 20 butterflies across two walls works better than one large central mural. This spread creates a fluttering effect that catches your child's eye from several angles in the room. The butterflies can also play off other animal designs, such as our bird wall stickers, for a cohesive scene.

How to apply your butterfly sticker (quick guide)

Application succeeds first time in more than 95% of cases if you follow these steps. Allow about 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the complexity of the design.

  1. Clean the wall with a damp microfibre cloth, then leave it to dry for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Measure and mark guidelines with an HB pencil (they rub out with an eraser), using a spirit level.
  3. Peel back just 5 to 10 cm of the backing paper, not the whole surface at once.
  4. Line up the top edge of the sticker with your mark, then smooth it down gradually from top to bottom.
  5. Use a squeegee or a stiff card wrapped in a cloth to push out bubbles, working from the centre.
  6. Slowly peel off the transfer film at a 45° angle, pressing back down if any part of the design lifts with the film.

If a bubble remains after application, prick it with a fine needle and smooth towards the hole to release the trapped air.

Frequently asked questions about butterfly stickers

Do butterfly stickers damage walls?

No, on satin paint or a properly prepared smooth surface, removing the sticker won't damage the wall. Old or fragile matt paints do, however, carry a risk of peeling.

What size should I choose for my butterfly sticker?

Allow about 1 m² of designs for every 5 m² of wall, a ratio of around 20%. Any more and the look becomes too busy.

Can I put a butterfly sticker on wallpaper?

Yes, on smooth vinyl wallpaper, but avoid non-woven and embossed wallpapers. Test on a discreet 5 cm² area before applying the whole design.

How long does a butterfly wall sticker last?

It lasts 5 to 7 years indoors on average, out of direct light. Prolonged sun exposure can cut this to 2 or 3 years.
