Choosing living room wall stickers lets you change the main wall of the room with no paint and no building work: a living room wall sticker goes straight onto a smooth surface. Our selection brings together arches, trompe-l'oeil and 3D designs, tropical jungle, green plants, zen mandalas, quotes and black line art, from a small motif above a sideboard to a 90 × 180 cm arch that covers a whole section of wall.

Why put wall stickers in your living room

What a wall sticker gives you:

  • No tools needed: it is self-adhesive, with no glue to add; a stiff card is all you need to smooth it down.
  • Reversible: on a smooth surface, our product pages state that it comes off without a trace.
  • Nothing to drill: no nails, no wall plugs, no frames to hang.
  • Easy to refresh: changing the design takes no paint and no renovation budget.

An empty corner wall, the wall behind the sofa or the one behind the TV can become the focal point of the living room, with no renovation.

Renting?

Living room wall stickers work well in a rented home, and some product pages say so, such as those for the Mediterranean Arch Trompe-l'Oeil and the Home Sweet Home quote. On a smooth surface, they come off with a little heat before you hand back the keys, as explained below.

Which wall sticker style to choose for your living room

The right style depends on the mood of the room, your existing furniture and the space you want to decorate. We have grouped the designs in this collection into eight themes: for each one, the living room it suits, three designs and the largest size.

Theme Which living room Designs Largest size
Japanese arches A calm or contemplative living room, as a backdrop to a low unit Japanese Temple Arch, Japanese Temple at Night Arch, Sakura Tree Arch 90 × 150 cm, for all six designs
Floral and boho arches A contemporary, natural or boho living room, behind a sofa or along a low unit Tropical Leaf Arch (90 × 180 cm), Boho Geometric Arch (8 colours, 52 × 140 cm), Linear Arch (6 colours, up to 67 × 120 cm) 90 × 180 cm
Trompe-l'oeil and 3D A section of wall, above a sideboard, a dining corner: a window, an alcove or shelves drawn on the wall Mediterranean Arch Trompe-l'Oeil (56 × 83 cm), 3D Gothic Arch Window (67.6 × 47.6 cm), 3D Plant Shelves (set of 3) 88 × 37 cm: under 90 cm per piece, not for a whole wall
Tropical jungle A bright living room or relaxation corner, as a border behind the sofa or high up on the wall Tropical Leaves and Butterflies (115 × 62 cm), Tropical Plants with Parrots (58 × 114 cm), Panoramic Tropical Jungle Mural 115 × 62 cm
Green plants, flowers and branches A nature-inspired living room: a corner, above the sofa or a chest of drawers Watercolour Green Leaves (140 × 95 cm), Large Monstera Corner (80 × 90 cm), Tree with Birds (108 × 83 cm) 140 × 95 cm
Zen and mandala A living room made for relaxing, a yoga corner or a meditation corner Multicoloured Mandala (74 × 70 cm), Zen Mandala (56 × 56 cm), Zen Buddha with Lotus Flowers (40 × 40 cm) 74 × 70 cm
Quotes A living room or hallway, above the sofa, a console table or a sideboard Home Sweet Home (90 × 8 cm), You Are Amazing (3 sizes, up to 52 × 56 cm), Dreamcatcher with Quote (65.2 × 53.8 cm) 65.2 × 53.8 cm
Graphic and line art A modern or minimalist living room: a bold corner, a narrow section of wall, above a console table Horse Bust (3 sizes, up to 57 × 134 cm), Black & White Horse Head (3 sizes, up to 57 × 76 cm), Line Art Hands (13.6 × 35.5 cm) 57 × 134 cm

Sizes: the ones on the product pages take precedence. Also in the collection: black sailing boats (Little Sailing Boat, Seascape), butterflies, cats on shelves and, for the festive season, the Santa Train.

The modern living room wall sticker

Clean lines, flat colour and continuous strokes define this style: the Linear Arch, the Terracotta Arch, the Minimalist Sun or the Line Art Hands. They work well on a white or light grey wall, with understated furniture. For a more design-led living room, the three frames of the 3D Contemporary Art Deco Plants give structure to a wall above a console table. On a large wall, a small motif on its own gets lost: go for a large size.

The trompe-l'oeil and 3D living room wall sticker

Trompe-l'oeil wall stickers open up a view where there isn't one: a window open onto a forest path, a stone arch opening onto the sea, a pointed-arch window. 3D plays with depth: light-wood alcoves lit by spotlights, shelves in perspective, Art Deco frames.

The nature and zen living room wall sticker

Monstera, blossoming branches, palm trees, watercolour jungle: botanical designs are the largest theme in the collection. For zen living room wall stickers, a meditating silhouette, a Buddha surrounded by lotus flowers or a mandala creates a calm visual centre in a relaxation corner.

How to choose the size and placement of your sticker

First measure the area you want to decorate (the whole wall, or just the section above the sofa), then compare it with the size given on the product page. Several designs come in two or three sizes: You Are Amazing, Horse Bust, Horse Head, Linear Arch, Zen Meditation.

Large living room wall stickers: sizes of 120 cm and over

For a large wall, look at large living room wall stickers, those measuring 120 cm or more on one side: the six Japanese arches and four floral arches (90 × 150 cm), the Tropical Leaf Arch (90 × 180 cm), the Boho Geometric Arch (52 × 140 cm), the Terracotta Arch (84 × 130 cm), the Linear Arch (67 × 120 cm), Watercolour Green Leaves (140 × 95 cm) and the Horse Bust (up to 57 × 134 cm). Several of them come in two pieces to be joined on the wall. For more ideas, our guide explains how to decorate a large living room wall.

The best spots in the living room

  • Wall behind the sofa: this is the natural focal point of the room. Go for a composition centred on the sofa, or an arch placed to one side: the Abstract Arch and the Terracotta Arch come in a left-hand and a right-hand version.
  • Wall behind the TV: understated, symmetrical designs work best, so they don't compete with the screen. Avoid bright colours and strong contrasts in this spot.
  • Corner wall or free section of wall: ideal for vertical designs, such as the Large Monstera Corner, made for a corner, or the Horse Bust between two pieces of furniture.
  • Top of the wall: some designs are made for the upper part of the wall, such as the Decorative Hanging Foliage, the Bamboo Leaves or the Tropical Leaves and Butterflies. Other designs are best placed at eye level.

Preparing the wall and applying your wall sticker

A successful application depends mostly on preparing the surface. A wall that hasn't been cleaned properly or is still damp stops the adhesive from gripping: it needs to be smooth, dry, clean and degreased.

  • Clean the wall with a damp cloth and a mild degreaser, then let it dry completely before applying.
  • On fresh paint, wait until it is completely dry, otherwise the adhesive won't grip well.
  • Use a plastic squeegee or a stiff card to push out air bubbles, working from the centre outwards.
  • Peel off the transfer film slowly, without pulling it at a right angle to the wall, so you don't tear the sticker.

For a large size, work in pairs: one person holds the top of the sticker while the other smooths it down, which limits creases.

Compatibility with wall surfaces

The product pages call for a smooth surface: smooth painted wall, glass, tiles or furniture, depending on the design. Part of the collection also lists smooth wallpaper and plasterboard. Textured render, textured wallpaper and porous surfaces are not recommended: there are too few contact points for the sticker to hold well.

Most stickers in the collection are vinyl or PVC. The six Japanese arches, the Blossom Arch, the Floral Arch, the Butterfly Arch, the Floral Arch with Message and the Zen Buddha with Lotus Flowers are made of self-adhesive paper. Each design's material is listed on its product page.

Caring for and removing your living room wall stickers

For everyday cleaning, look for the “Washable” line in the design's specifications. If it's there, as with the Tropical Leaf Arch or the Modern Floral Arch, a slightly damp microfibre cloth will do; if not, and especially for the paper designs, dust it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive sponges, household alcohol and ammonia-based products, which can damage the print.

How to remove a wall sticker

Removal works with heat: gently warm the surface with a hairdryer, one section at a time. The adhesive softens and the sticker peels away gently, starting from a corner.

Wall stickers for the other rooms in your home

Each room has its own constraints: humidity in the bathroom, splashes in the kitchen, the mood of a bedroom.

  • For the bedroom, our bedroom wall stickers share several themes with this page: Japanese arches, mandalas, line art.
  • For a kids' room with playful motifs, our kids' wall stickers collection brings together unicorns, dinosaurs, rainbows and woodland animals.
  • For the most practical room in the house, our kitchen wall stickers mix coffee cups, chefs and lettering such as “Bon Appétit”; Hanging Potted Plants appears in both collections.
  • In a humid room, choose from our bathroom wall stickers a design listed as waterproof on its product page: Watercolour Green Leaves and Tropical Greenery are among them.

Frequently asked questions about living room wall stickers

Which sticker suits a living room?

Choose a sticker in proportion to the area you want to decorate (the whole wall or just the section above the sofa) that works with your furniture. Botanical designs and arches, the two largest themes in the collection, are safe bets for a contemporary living room.

How do I apply a wall sticker without bubbles?

Clean and dry the wall, then apply the sticker, pushing out the air with a plastic squeegee from the centre outwards. Then peel off the transfer film slowly, without pulling it at a right angle to the wall.

Do wall stickers damage the paint?

On a smooth surface in good condition, our product pages state that the sticker comes off without a trace. On fragile or fresh paint, wait until it is completely dry and test on a discreet corner.

How long does a wall sticker last?

It depends on the design. When it is known, the estimated lifespan is given in the specifications on the product page; not every product page lists it. To make it last, ideally apply it out of direct sunlight and clean it as its product page says: a slightly damp cloth if it is listed as washable, a soft, dry cloth if not.

Can I use several wall stickers together?

Yes, several stickers can be combined on the same wall. Some designs are actually sets of elements to arrange, such as Hanging Plants and Cats or Tropical Foliage and Parrots. Leave some space between the motifs: an airy composition reads better than a crowded wall.

Are wall stickers suitable for renters?

Yes: nothing to drill, no glue to add. Before you move out, warm the sticker slightly with a hairdryer and peel it off gently, starting from a corner. On a smooth surface, our product pages state that it comes off without a trace.
