Which wall sticker should you choose for an adult bedroom?

Bedroom wall stickers transform a room with no painting and no drilling. Choosing the right bedroom wall sticker for an adult bedroom comes down to three things: the style of your home, the area you want to dress (headboard, a whole wall, a secondary wall) and the size of the design compared with the wall space available.

We have grouped the designs in this collection by theme. For each theme: where to place it according to our product pages, a few examples and its largest size.

Theme Where in the bedroom Designs Longest side
Floral, boho and Japanese arches Behind the bed, as a drawn headboard Blossom Arch (90 × 150 cm), Linear Arch (6 colours, 2 sizes), Japanese Temple at Night Arch (90 × 150 cm) 180 cm
Plants, flowers and tropical As a headboard, high on the wall above the bed, in a corner Sage Green Watercolour Monstera (105 × 52 cm), Decorative Hanging Foliage (96 × 41 cm), Large Monstera Corner (80 × 90 cm) 114 cm
Zen and mandala Above the bed or a meditation corner Zen Mandala (56 × 56 cm), Multicoloured Mandala (74 × 70 cm), Zen Meditation (3 sizes, up to 52 × 42 cm) 74 cm

Black and white graphic Behind the bed, or a narrow strip of wall between two pieces of furniture Horse and Tree (65.2 × 52.9 cm), Horse Bust (3 sizes, up to 57 × 134 cm), Black & White Horse Head (3 sizes, up to 57 × 76 cm) 134 cm
Trompe-l'oeil and 3D A section of wall in the bedroom or study Window onto the Forest (51.8 × 37 cm), Mediterranean Arch Trompe-l'Oeil (56 × 83 cm), 3D Illuminated Plants (87.4 × 36.3 cm) Under 90 cm: not for a whole wall

Sizes: the ones shown on the product pages, which take precedence.

Minimalist, pared-back style

Go for simple geometric shapes, fine lines and a limited palette: the Linear Arch, which its product page suggests for a minimalist bedroom, comes in soft ochre, terracotta, green, warm beige, grey and black.

  • Parallel lines forming an arch: Linear Arch, in 56 × 100 or 67 × 120 cm
  • Three stacked arches in a gradient: Boho Geometric Arch, in 8 colours from nude to teal
  • Fine black lines on a light wall: Minimalist Sun, Line Art Hands

Nature and botanical mood

Our product pages place plants as a headboard (Sage Green Watercolour Monstera), high on the wall above the bed (Decorative Hanging Foliage) or in a corner, next to the headboard (Large Monstera Corner). For more foliage and flowers, see our nature wall stickers; for a whole wall, our tree wall stickers.

A quote above the bed

Our tip: one phrase per wall. In this collection, the Dreamcatcher with Quote frames its feathers and beads with the words “never stop dreaming”, to place above a bed or a low sideboard.

Master bedroom or teenager's bedroom: which design?

In a master bedroom, the design goes behind or above the bed first: an arch as a headboard, a quote, a mandala. In a teenager's bedroom, think about the wall by the desk or the reading corner too, where our product pages place more graphic designs. No design in the collection is reserved for a particular age.

For a master bedroom, the spots our product pages suggest:

  • Behind the bed: the Blossom Arch (“above a bed”), the Linear Arch (“a minimalist bedroom”) or the Horse and Tree (“behind a bed”)
  • Above the bed: the Zen Mandala or the Dreamcatcher with Quote
  • Next to the headboard: the Large Monstera Corner, designed for a wall corner

For a teenager's bedroom, by the desk and at eye level:

  • Above the desk: the Minimalist Plant Frames, a set of three panels that its product page places above a minimalist desk
  • In black and white: the Black & White Horse Head or the Eiffel Tower Paris, which their product pages suggest for a study
  • To open up the wall: the Window onto the Forest, a trompe-l'oeil for “a living room or a bedroom”

For a child's bedroom, pastel designs and animals are gathered in our kids wall stickers.

Sticker above the bed: what size for a 140, 160 or 180 cm bed?

Compare the width of the bed with the width of the sticker. No arch in the collection is wider than 90 cm: centred, an arch draws a headboard narrower than the bed, even on a 140 cm bed. For a wider, lower design, choose a landscape motif.

Bed width 90 cm arch, centred Sage Green Watercolour Monstera (105 × 52 cm), centred
140 cm 25 cm of free wall on each side 17.5 cm on each side
160 cm 35 cm on each side 27.5 cm on each side
180 cm 45 cm on each side 37.5 cm on each side

Calculated with the sizes on the product pages. Depending on the look you want, there are three options:

  • A centred arch behind the bed, like a tall, narrow headboard: the 90 cm wide arches are the Tropical Leaf Arch, the floral arches in 90 × 150 cm and the Japanese arches.
  • An arch placed to one side: the Terracotta Arch and the Abstract Arch come in a left-hand and a right-hand version.
  • A landscape motif above the bed: the Sage Green Watercolour Monstera (105 × 52 cm), which its product page suggests as a headboard, or the Decorative Hanging Foliage (96 × 41 cm), high on the wall.

As for height, compare the height of the arch (100 to 180 cm) with the free height of the wall. The Japanese arches, the Blossom Arch and the Terracotta Arch come in two pieces: apply them with two people. You will also find our arches in the arch wall stickers collection.

Headboard sticker: which arch should you choose?

In this collection, the arches act as a headboard: 100 to 180 cm high and 52 to 90 cm wide. Here they are, from tallest to shortest.

Renting? Keep the wall intact, remove without a trace

A wall sticker suits a rented home well: it is self-adhesive, goes up without tools or extra glue and needs no drilling. On a smooth surface and sound paint, our product pages state a trace-free removal; the one for the Mediterranean Arch Trompe-l'Oeil even says it is “perfect for rented homes”.

To hand back an intact wall, take two precautions. Apply the sticker to a smooth wall, never to textured render or textured wallpaper. On moving day, peel it off slowly, starting from a corner, after warming the adhesive with a hairdryer. Our guide on how to remove wall stickers without damaging the paint explains every step.

How do you apply a wall sticker without damaging your walls?

A successful application comes down to three things: a prepared surface, alignment checked before sticking and a sticker smoothed down without bubbles.

Prepare the surface

A sticker only adheres properly to a smooth, clean, dry wall. On fresh paint, wait until it is completely dry before applying a sticker, otherwise the adhesive will not grip well.

  • Dust the wall with a dry microfibre cloth
  • Clean it with warm soapy water, then wipe with a clean cloth
  • Make sure the wall is completely dry before applying
  • Look for flaws: a sticker hides neither holes nor cracks

The product pages call for a smooth surface: painted wall, glass, tiles or furniture, depending on the design.

Step-by-step application

Step Action Tool
1 Position the sticker dry and mark the corners Pencil, spirit level
2 Peel back the backing a few centimetres at the top Clean hands
3 Apply from top to bottom, smoothing as you go Squeegee or rigid card
4 Gently remove the transfer film, without pulling at a right angle to the wall Clean hands
5 Smooth it down one last time to push out any bubbles Squeegee

Application tip: if an air bubble appears and will not budge when you smooth it, prick it with a fine needle, then push the air towards the hole. For a two-piece arch, work in pairs: one person holds the top, the other smooths.

Removing and repositioning

  • Several product pages describe the sticker as repositionable; the Boho Geometric Arch page specifies 10 minutes: adjust the position straight after applying
  • For cleaning, check the “Washable” line on the product page: a slightly damp cloth if it is there, a soft dry cloth if not

Bedroom wall stickers: frequently asked questions

Do wall stickers stick to all walls?

Wall stickers adhere to smooth, clean surfaces: a smooth painted wall, glass, tiles or furniture, depending on what the product page says for the design. They do not hold well on textured render or textured wallpaper. On fresh paint, wait until it is completely dry before applying, otherwise the adhesive will not grip properly.

What size should I choose above the bed?

Measure the width of the bed and the free height of the wall, then compare them with the size on the product page. The arches in the collection are 52 to 90 cm wide. Centred, an arch draws a tall headboard. To cover more of the width, choose a landscape motif, such as the Sage Green Watercolour Monstera (105 × 52 cm).

Which wall sticker can replace a headboard?

An arch, 100 to 180 cm high depending on the design. The Japanese arches and several floral arches measure 90 × 150 cm, the Tropical Leaf Arch 90 × 180 cm. The Terracotta Arch and the Abstract Arch come in a left-hand or right-hand version, for an off-centre headboard.

Can I choose the size of my wall sticker?

Each design comes in one or more sizes, shown on the product page. In this collection, the Horse Bust, the Black & White Horse Head, the Zen Meditation and the Linear Arch come in two or three sizes. Not sure about the format? Send us a photo of the room and we will help you choose.

How long does a wall sticker last?

The lifespan of a wall sticker depends on the design. When it is known, the estimated lifespan is listed in the specifications on the product page: up to 10 years indoors for the Tropical Leaf Arch or the Abstract Arch, several years indoors for others. Ideally, apply it out of direct sunlight.
